Obituary
CREVE COEUR - Dean R. York, 70, of Creve Coeur died at 1:35 pm Saturday, October 4, 2008 at his residence.
Born on July 14, 1938 in El Paso, IL to DeWitt C. and Emma Bush York, he married Patricia Ann Trapper on August 17, 1957 at St. Monica's Catholic Church in East Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are his two daughters, Beth York and Barbara (Roger) Halleen, both of East Peoria, 2 grandchildren, Andrew Stewart Halleen and Amy Louise Halleen, 2 brothers, DeWitt (Donna) York Jr. of Spring Bay and Alvin York of Peoria and 1 sister Phyllis Fisher of California. He was also loved by many nieces and nephews. Dean will also be greatly missed by his beloved Papillion dog, Lilly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Earl York, a sister, Wanda Green, and his twin sister, Nadine Bishop Gunzenheiser.
Dean served in the US Army Reserves for six years.
Dean began as a tree trimmer for York Tree Service in Spring Bay, working with his father and brothers. Later he worked as a Light Lineman for West Central throughout the state of Illinois. He then worked for the Peoria Park District as a Forestry Foreman for 30 years, retiring in 1999.
He belonged to the Peoria County Old Settlers Association where he spent many hours volunteering at Sommer Park. He also planned and built several structures including the cabin and the barn at Sommer Park. He constructed the trophy case for the Key Club at IVC High School, and always helped a neighbor in need. An avid woodworker, Dean also built wooden furniture and toys, contributing these to St. Jude Children's hospital and various other charities.
A graveside service will be at 11 am Thursday, October 9, 2008 at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria. Visitation for Dean will be from 5-7 pm Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at Deiters Funeral Home in East Peoria.
Memorials may be made to Peoria Park District for the benefit of Sommer Park.
