David M. Van Oppen, 69, of East Peoria, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2025 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born September 7, 1956 in Peoria to the late Paul J. and Arlene J. (Hoffer)Van Oppen. He married Camila K. Edwards on June 30, 1984 in East Peoria.

Surviving is his wife, Camila; their sons, Mike (Felicia) Van Oppen and Mitch (Sommer) Van Oppen, all of East Peoria; and his grandkids, Hadley, Teagan, and Knox.

David grew up in East Peoria and graduated from EPCHS. He went on to a 30 year career as a union bricklayer, working for M.R. Mason in East Peoria and J.J. Brakers in Morton, until retiring in 2015. He most loved time spent outdoors, enjoying hunting, fishing, camping, and hosting fish fries. He was a longtime, active member of Big 25 Sportsman's Club. More than the outdoors, he loved his family, especially having his grandkids with him. Together, they liked to ride in the side by side, fish, and swim. David's was a life full of laughter and fun. He never met a stranger and his joy for life was contagious.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice.
