Obituary
David A. Johnston, 56, of Lake Elsinore, CA, formerly of Washington died at 8 PM on Wednesday May 21, 2014 at his residence. He was born February 18, 1958 in Peoria to Arthur and Doris Meinhold Johnston. He married Susan Van Buhler in California on June 26, 1982. She survives and resides in Lake Elsinore, CA. He is also survived by his parents of Washington, two sons, Gary Johnston of San Diego, CA and Kevin Johnston of Portland, OR, one brother Robert (Sheila) Johnston of Beaumont, TX and two sisters, Barbara (Robert) Luedeke of Freeport and Linda (Dr. Arthur) Metzger of Indianapolis, several nieces and nephews, Bradley (Kelly) Luedeke of Columbus, IN, Pamela Luedeke of Denver, Christopher (Megan) Metzger of Alexandria, VA, Allison Metzger of Seattle, WA, Eric Johnston of Beaumont, TX and Brent Johnston of Beaumont, TX, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
David was a 1976 graduate of Washington Community High School where he played football and basketball. He received a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1980. In 1984 he received his master's degree from Cal State Fullerton. He worked three years at a Naval Weapons Station in Seal Beach, CA and worked for 31 years at Computrus Industries last working in the spring of 2014.
He enjoyed his family and sports. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and Green Bay Packer Fan. He coached Little League Baseball and youth Basketball. He enjoyed maintaining his beautiful yard, especially his multiple rose bushes.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday June 14, 2014 at 11 AM at Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington. Pastor Dan Doty will officiate. There will be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded and a private inurnment will take place at Glendale Cemetery in Washington at a later date. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family in the details of his memorial service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or charity of donor's choice.
