Obituary

David F. Cook, 95, of Peoria, passed away peacefully Tuesday May 4, 2021 at UnityPoint Hospital in Peoria with his daughter and son-in-law by his side. David was born April 26, 1926 in Elmwood, NE, the son of Emmett and Susie Mathis Cook. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Margaret Tooker, his first wife Deloris Moore, and his second wife Emma Jean Godfrey. Surviving are his son, Victor (Kathy) Cook of Bartlesville, OK; daughter, Linda (Charles) Kahler of White Heath, IL; six grandchildren, Kenwick Cook of Bartlesville, OK, Karli (Eamon) Dutta of Atlanta, GA, Kory Cook of San Antonio, TX, Tiffany (Brian) Dodd of Philo, IL, Angel (Ben) Mast of White Heath, IL, and Charli Kahler of White Heath, IL; and seven great grandchildren, who all call him the best dad and grandpa of them all! David graduated from Elmwood High School in 1943. He served in the US Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. He received degrees in BSEE from the University of Nebraska and a MEA from Bradley. He was a registered Professional Engineer and a senior member of The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. In 1957 he became the electrical test engineer at LeTourneau and subsequently joined Caterpillar in Research Engineering. At Caterpillar, he was the Project Engineer for electric power systems and electric drive systems. He loved ballroom dancing with Mary, a very special friend. Flying was his passion, going up in the Ercoupe and still flying at 92. He volunteered as a tax counselor with AARP and sang with Cat Chorus, Harmonie and Peoria Players. He was a longtime member of United Presbyterian Church, singing in the choir, teaching, and coordinating the men's breakfast. David was an active member of American Legion Post 2, serving in the Honor Guard and as an officer. He also enjoyed traveling and frequent family visits. The family joined him in celebrating his 95th birthday with a party and a cookout on April 25, 2021. Services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at United Presbyterian Church at 2400 W. Northmoor Rd. in Peoria. Visitation will be from 10:00am - 11:00 am, prior to the service at the church. Inurnment with military honors will be on Soldier's Hill at Springdale Cemetery in Peoria. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 2 at 110 E. McClure Ave. Peoria, IL 61603 or the David F. Cook Scholarship Fund (fund number 0124820), University of Nebraska Foundation at 1010 Lincoln Mall, Ste. 300 Lincoln, NE 68508.
