Obituary

Cynthia "Cindy" S. Kiesewetter, 72, of Metamora, passed away peacefully at home with her loving family by her side on Saturday, July 18, 2026, following a courageous, prolonged battle with progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP).

Born in Peoria on September 13, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth (Rooker) Laitas. On June 8, 1973, she married Kenneth "Kenny" Kiesewetter at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Metamora, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned 53 years.

Affectionately known as "Dee-Dee" or "Deeds", a nickname bestowed by her eldest granddaughter, Cindy cherished her role as a grandmother. She cultivated a unique, personal bond with each of her four grandchildren, leaving them with a legacy of treasured memories.

Family traditions held a central place in Cindy's life, most notably annual vacations to Long Lake, Wisconsin. There, she embraced the outdoors through waterskiing, tubing, and wildlife photography. She was an avid and skilled angler, frequently out-fishing others with her own competitive style of pan-fishing for large crappies. Evenings at the cabin were filled with laughter and the card game Feather around the kitchen table.

At home, Cindy's creativity and care were evident in her surroundings. She was a talented baker who spent hours decorating cakes for family milestones and possessed a natural green thumb, maintaining vibrant rose gardens and flowerbeds. During the winter months, she took quiet joy in feeding the local wildlife, ensuring the neighborhood squirrels were well-supplied with corn.

Deeply committed to her community and children, Cindy was an active presence during her daughters' school years, serving on the MGS Citizens' Advisory Board and donating her time to the MTHS band boosters. She was a constant, supportive presence at every event, naturally assuming the role of a second mother to many of her daughters' friends. Among her peers, she found joy in bowling leagues, scrapbooking projects, and simple afternoons spent sharing laughs over Diet Cokes.

Cindy is survived by her husband, Kenny Kiesewetter of Metamora; her daughters, Sara (Wesley) Drew and Jenell (Matthew) Boehl, both of Metamora; and her four grandchildren: Makenna Reeves, Reyven Hecathorn, and Sylvan and Katarina Drew. She also leaves behind her sisters, Jeanne (James) Stump of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Peggy Hatfield of Lombard, Illinois, Rebecca Epping of Downs, Illinois, and Susan Laitas of Aurora, Illinois; her sister-in-law, Susan Forester of Dahlonega, Georgia; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members; and her cat, Pozzi.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded by Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, July 21, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Christian Union Church in Metamora, with a memorial service to follow at 7:00 p.m., officiated by the Pastor Gary Salm.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Pam and Tamara of the OSF Hospice Team.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Eureka Area Meals on Wheels or Cats of West Central IL.
