Obituary WEST PEORIA - Claus A. Miller Jr., 85, of West Peoria, died at 6:55 am Friday, March 2, 2007 at Manor Care in Peoria. Born on October 17, 1921 in Emden, IL to Claus Alonzo and Trella Mae Ray Miller Sr, he married Maria Elizabeth Honings on July 31, 1945 in Sittard, Netherlands. She survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Mary Ann Miller of Washington, IL, 3 sons Ron (Debra) Miller of Camarillo, CA, Michael Miller of Peoria, IL and Dennis (Linda) Miller of East Peoria, 1 brother, Allen (Audrey) Miller of Delavan, IL, 6 Grandchildren, Alex, Reid, Ron, Tim, Heather S. and Heather M., and 3 Step-Grandchildren, Chris, Kevin, and Gary. He was preceded in death by on infant brother, Jimmie Lee. He was a US Army Sergeant , serving during WWII. He received 4 Overseas Service Bars, a Silver Star, and a Bronze Service Arrowhead. He worked as a Combat Engineer and landed on Normandy on D-day plus 1. He also served in Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He managed several Kroger Stores for 20 years and then was a distributor for Kelly Food Products for over ten years until retiring. He loved basketball, and received the Most Valuable Player Award while playing in Europe during WWII. Claus was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church in West Peoria since 1963. He was a Lifetime Charter Member of the WWII Memorial in Washington D.C. and was a member of the VFW Post #2078 in East Peoria. He was an avid Cubs, Bears and Bradley Braves fan. A funeral mass will be at 10 am Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at St. Mark Catholic Church in West Peoria. The Fr. Brian Herlocker will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at Deiters Funeral Home in East Peoria, where a prayer service will begin at 6:45 pm.
