Obituary
WASHINGTON-Claude D. "Woody" Woods, 86, of Washington, IL passed away at 3:45 PM Monday, January 20, 2014, with his family at his side.
Woody was born June 27, 1927 in Church Hill, TN to William David and Frances Elizabeth Freeman Woods. He married JoAnn Bayer in Peoria, IL on July 18, 1953. She survives.
He is also survived by his three children, Scott Woods of Washington, Tim (Karen) Woods of Decatur, and Terry (Gordon) Short of Washington; six grandchildren, Scott (Kate) Woods II, Michael (Jaclyn) Woods, Carey (Max) Boelter, Sean Woods, Austin Woods, and Megan Woods; and five great-grandchildren, Graeme, Koen, Skyeler, Lilly and Chloe.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Debra Lavaux; two grandchildren, Branden Lavaux and Cameron Lavaux; and thirteen of his brothers and sisters.
One of fourteen children, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Woody retired from Caterpillar in 1982, where he worked as a pipefitter for thirty years.
Woody loved spending time outdoors, working in his extensive vegetable garden and mowing with his tractor. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing, and watching baseball and football. In his earlier years, he was an avid golfer and established the annual Caddyshack family golf outing, which ran for twenty-five years. He also coached boys baseball and umpired at NTRA. Woody was a beloved father and friend and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was of the Lutheran faith.
Funeral Services for Woody will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 12 Noon at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. Jim Bayer will officiate. Visitation will be from 10am - 12 Noon on Saturday, prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in rural Morton.
