Claude L. Greenway, 77, of Washington, formerly of East Peoria, passed away at 4:40am Thursday, August 8, 2024 at the Villas of Hollybrook in Washington.
Claude was born July 16, 1947 in Peoria, one of three children born to the late Lester and Margaret Ritter Greenway.
Surviving are his children, Gina (Rod) Bull and Jeff (Heather) Greenway; his grandchildren, Vik, Belle, Sol, Reed, and Luc; his siblings, Sue (Ed) Beach and Lani (Connie) Greenway; and his nieces and nephews and their families.
He was also preceded in death by one niece.
Claude enlisted in the United State Marine Corps in 1965. He was a Helicopter Crew Chief, attaining the rank of Corporal; during his service to our country, seven times the aircraft he was aboard was shot down. He was honorably discharged in 1969 after earning several awards, including 17 Air Medals and a Presidential Unit Citation. For many years, he owned Pekin Small Engine and later retired from Rohn Manufacturing in Bellevue.
Claude loved to fish and was happiest when he was out on his boat. He enjoyed golfing and was the beer can golf champion at the Bunker. He loved spending time with that extended family at the Bunker and his own family as well.
His life will be celebrated at the Vietnam Veterans of Illinois- The Bunker in Sunnyland on Saturday, August 24, 2024 from noon-4:00pm. Military honors will be rendered at 2:00pm.
