Obituary WASHINGTON - Clarence A. "Lindy" Linsley, 93, of Washington, IL died at 8:20 am Sunday, September 29, 2013 in Washington. Born on December 7, 1919 in Peoria, IL to George and Mathilda Behrens Linsley, he married Florence Ratkiewicz on November 26, 1949 in Peru, IL. She preceded him in death on March 9, 1998. Surviving are 3 children, Jim (Beth) Linsley of Washington, Amy (Tom) Carrado of Schaumburg, IL, and Robert (Cheryl) Linsley of Washington, 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 granddaughter, Angie Linsley, 1 brother, and 2 sisters. Clarence proudly served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army Air Corp. during World War II. In October of 1958, Clarence and Florence bought a two aisle grocery from Al Menz and started Lindy's Grocery, one of nine area groceries at the time. With Clarence's hard work and loving dedication, Lindy's continued to grow over the years into the store it is today. Lindy was a devoted member of St. Patrick Church in Washington and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Spalding Assembly and served on the Knights of Columbus Degree team for many years. An avid bowler, he was a member of the Greater Peoria Bowling Association Hall of Fame since 1971. Lindy also was a charter member of the Washington Chamber of Commerce and was the recipient of the Washingtonian Award in 1999. A funeral mass will be at 10 am Thursday, October 3, 2013 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, where a prayer service will be at 7 pm. Additional visitation will be from 9-10 am Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Visitation OCT 3. 09:00 AM - 10:00 AM St. Patrick Catholic Church 705 E.
