Obituary Clara Laverne Thieme, 86, of Washington, passed away at 6:13pm Sunday, December 31, 2017 at her home. Laverne was born April 16, 1931 in Finger, TN to Erbin W. and Elsie E. (Moore) Woodward. On April 21, 1958 she married Alvin Thieme; he preceded her in death. Surviving are her children, Bobby (Helen) Roe of Washington, Mike (Brenda) Roe of Rutledge, MO, Lana (Mark) Overturf of Aurora, CO, and Kevin Thieme of Washington; all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Georgia Keil, Elizabeth Harris, Dennis Woodward, and Phyllis Parrish. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Shirley Garrison and brothers, Billy and Joe Woodward; and two children, Amie and Ronnie. She was a very talented seamstress and loved to share her talent by quilting, sewing and crocheting. Caring for her flower and vegetable garden brought her joy, as did bird watching. She loved to read, cook, and spend time with her family. In her younger years, she volunteered with the cancer society and was active in Cub Scouts and the Grange. A memorial service for Laverne will be held at 3:00pm Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. A memorial visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Illinois CancerCare Foundation.
