Obituary

Obituary Chuck K. Tabacchi, 68, of Creve Coeur, passed away at 11:45am, Sunday, March 22, 2015 at UnityPoint Health-Proctor in Peoria. Chuck was born September 29, 1946 in Taylorville to George Leno and Alice Rose (Norman) Tabacchi. He married Betty A. Schroyer on April 8, 1967 in Taylorville; she survives. Also surviving are their children, Angela (Todd) McKenna of Pekin, Charles (Alice) Tabacchi of Granger, IN, Flecia (Tim) Peters of Peoria, Julianna (Phil) Smith of East Peoria, and Antonio (Talula) Tabacchi of Creve Coeur; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Robert and George Tabacchi, and a granddaughter, Alexa Tabacchi. Chuck served in the US Army from 1966-1968 in Vietnam. He was a war correspondent for Stars and Stripes newspaper, where he was a photographer and illustrator. He retired from the State of Illinois, where he worked at the local Air National Guard base. Chuck enjoyed coaching many youth baseball teams and founded the Creve Coeur American Legion baseball team. He volunteered with the Floyd Castleman Youth Assocation. Most important to him was his family, especially his grandkids. The family would like to thank the ICU nurses at Unity Point Proctor for their care. The family will host a memorial open house from 5:00-8:00pm, Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Creve Coeur VFW Post 4835. Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory, East Peoria is serving the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Victims of Agent Orange (www.agentorange.org) or the Creve Coeur VFW Post 4835.
