Christina S. Saunders, 75, of Washington, passed away at 6:50pm Thursday, July 13, 2023 at Snyder Village Nursing Home in Metamora.

Chris was born February 22, 1948 in Ottawa to the late William J. and Drue Redshaw Scales. She married Donald W. Saunders on May 8, 1976 at First Congregational Church in Ottawa; he preceded her in death in 2015.

She is survived by her children, Robert (Julie) Saunders of Hinsdale and Beth (Tony) Schofield of Washington; grandchildren, Ethan, Hailey, Jack and Andrew; her siblings, William Scales and Nancy Scales; sister-in-law, Kay Saunders; and nieces and nephew, Gretchen, Christopher, and Heidi.

Chris graduated from Methodist College of Nursing and went on to OSF, Washington Christian Village, and finally Snyder Village. She retired in 2013, after 28 years of service there. Over the years, she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and volunteered at Heartland Dog Training Center. She enjoyed sewing, playing cards, cooking, and spending time with her family. Most of all, she loved her grandkids and made the best chocolate chip cookies.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30am Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Visitation will be from 5-7:00pm Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
