Obituary WASHINGTON - Chester "Chet" Howard Smiley III, 61, of Washington, died at 12:20 am on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 in the emergency room at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria . He was born on March 21, 1948 in Peoria to Chester Howard and Barbara Knox Halliday Smiley II. Surviving is his mother, Barbara Corbin of Washington, with whom he resided, 2 sisters, Robin (Darrell) Artman of Pekin, IL and Gloria Corbin of Washington, 1 brother, Jonathon Smiley of Irving, TX, 1 aunt, Marie Keli of Panama City Beach, FL, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father. Chet served in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict. Chet retired from Caterpillar Tractor Co. in 2003, after 30 years of service. He was a member of the VFW Post #9016 in Washington, and had been an associate member of the Knights of Columbus in Washington. He also was a member of the Sunnyland Old Farts Club and the Kennel Lake Sportsman Club. A memorial service will be at 2:00 pm Monday, March 30, 2009 at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Washington. Pastor John Hauck will officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to services at the church. Burial of cremains will follow the services at Glendale Cemetery in Washington, where military rites will be accorded by the Tazewell Military Rites Team. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the VFW Post #9016 in Washington.
