Obituary
WASHINGTONa"Chester "Chet" Clayton Sauder, 91, of Washington passed away peacefully at 2:45 PM, Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Washington Christian Village in Washington, IL.
He was born September 23, 1917 in Roanoke, IL to Samuel C. Sauder and Sybil Evangeline (Risser) Sauder. He married Jean Wallace on November 24, 1945. She preceded him in death in 2006. He was also preceded in death by his three brothers.
Chet is remembered by his daughter Sharon (Joe) Trevathan of Murfreesboro, TN, and his two sons, Alan Sauder and Todd Sauder of Washington, IL. He delighted in and will be missed greatly by his 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and 3 step grandsons.
Chet graduated from the University of Illinois in 1940 with a degree in Banking and Finance and served in the US Army 123 Regiment in the South Pacific during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal in recognition of heroism in action for the battle of Luzon in the Phillipines. After the war, he worked 39 years in governmental sales at Caterpillar.
Chet enjoyed walking and could be seen anywhere around Washington in his earlier years. He also enjoyed golf, traveling, and was a diehard Cubs fan.
He was a member and served as an elder of the Washington Presbyterian Church.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff at Washington Christian Village and the OSF Hospice Team.
Visitation will be held from 3-5 PM Sunday, June 14, 2009 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. Cremation rites will follow the visitation. A memorial service in celebration of the life of Chet will be held at 1 PM on Monday, June 15 at the Washington Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Brooks McDaniel will officiate. Inurnment of cremated remains will be private at Roanoke Township Cemetery.
