Obituary

Obituary Chester L. "Puddle" Hefner II, 79, of East Peoria, passed away at 9:40am Tuesday April 25, 2017 at Snyder Village in Metamora. He was born May 17, 1937 in Peoria to Chester L. Hefner I and Jean (O'Foote) Hefner. He married Julia Elizabeth Geier in 1959 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Peoria; she survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Heidi (Jonathan) Higginson of Boston, MA; two sons, Bryan (Paige) Hefner of Morton, IL, and Scott (Kara) Hefner of Huntley, IL; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Gretchen (Bud) Schmitt. Puddle worked at P&PU Railroad and began working at Caterpillar in 1973. He retired from Caterpillar in 1998 after 25 years with the company. He was a lifelong resident of East Peoria contributing to the community through various works such as the Festival of Lights and Eastside Centre. Puddle was a member of the Caterpillar Chorus and performed in several theatre productions. He was a member of St. Monica's and Sacred Heart parishes. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Above all, he was a beloved husband, father and grandfather to his family. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am Saturday, April 29, 2017 at St. Monica Catholic Church in East Peoria. Visitation will be from 5-7:00pm Friday, April 28, 2017 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington with a prayer service at 7:30 pm. Interment will be at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
