Charlene LaVon Iverson, 92, formerly of Washington, IL, died at 1:37 am Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Hillcrest Home in Geneseo, IL.
Born on December 25, 1931 in Meredosia, IL to Charles and Ethel Wiener Smith, she married Arthur S. Iverson on June 3, 1950 in Meredosia. He preceded her in death on September 2, 2016. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Brody Iverson and her brother, Merlyn Smith.
Surviving are 3 children; Theresa (Bill) Nelson of Geneseo, IL, and Randy (Nancy) Iverson and Brian Iverson, both of Washington, IL, 1 brother, Donovan (Donna) Smith of Broken Arrow, OK and 1 sister, Doris Froebel of Washington, IL, 7 grandchildren; Joe (Victoria Pater) Nelson, Scott Nelson (Sarah Stott), Dawn (Rob) Cavallo, Tim Iverson, Alyx Iverson, Austen Iverson, and Marissa Iverson (Ryan Hand) and 7 great-grandchildren; Hugo, Ivy, Opal, Kaylee, Alyssa, Brayden, and Mallory.
Charlene graduated in the Class of 1949 from Meredosia High School. As a mother, she enjoyed being active in her young children's activities. She participated in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4H and Little League baseball. She also enjoyed traveling, camping, and planning family gatherings and reunions. In later years, Charlene enjoyed assisting as a polling judge on election days and always rooted for the Chicago Cubs.
She was an active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington, where she was a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the Altar Guild and the Dorcus Class.
Services for Charlene will be at 11 am Saturday, July 13, 2024 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Pastor Dick Hanson will officiate. Visitation will be from 10-11 am at the church. Burial will be private at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorials may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
