Obituary WASHINGTON-Carmen Erwin, 88, of Washington, IL, died at 5:07 PM Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, IL. Born on September 28, 1925 in Minnesota City, MN to Henry L. and Alvina S. Tschumper Benck, she married Charles J. Erwin on August 5, 1950 in Washington; he preceded her in death on February 14, 2002 in Peoria. Surviving are 2 sons, Chuck (Pat) Erwin of Morton and Larry Erwin of Farmington; 2 grandchildren, Beth Erwin of Oak Park and Jeff (Melissa) Erwin of Berwyn; 2 great-granddaughters, Olivia and Amelia; and 1 sister, Carol (Bob) Plate of Florida. She was also preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers, Leland, Eugene, and Cletus. Carmen was a dedicated, loving mother and grandmother who actively participated in many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's events. She was a member of Sunnyland Christian Church for over 50 years and also served as the church secretary for several years. Carmen will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Funeral Services will be at 10 AM Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Sunnyland Christian Church. Pastor Evan Williams will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-6 PM Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Additional visitation will be hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in rural Morton. Memorials may be made to Sunnyland Christian Church.
