Carl Jacob Wyss, 96, of Washington, passed away on January 8, 2022 at Carle Eureka Hospital. He was born February 24, 1925 in rural Morton to Edward and Julia (Schick) Wyss. He married Lydiann Metzger on June 25, 1950 in Lester, IA. They were blessed with 71 ½ years together.
Surviving is his devoted and loving wife, Lydiann Wyss, of Washington; his five children; Karen (Randy) Kellenberger of Stilwell, KS, Ed (Kathy) Wyss of Eureka, Rita (Loren) Klopfenstein of Grabill, IN, Fred (Dianne) Wyss of Washington, IL and Lori (Herb) Leman of Eureka; 22 grandchildren, and 42 great-grandchildren; his siblings; Roy (Shirley) Wyss of Goodfield, and Madelyn Rothgeb of Roanoke; and sisters-and brothers-in-law, Pearline Streitmatter of Washington, Roy (Evelyn) Metzger and Russell Wuthrich, all of Bloomfield, IA.
Carl gave his life to the Lord as a young man and faithfully served his Lord, family, church, and community. He was a member of the Morton Apostolic Christian Church where he was a trustee, Sunday School teacher, and sang with the Mortonaires. In 1976, he was a founding member of the Washington Apostolic Christian Church, where he served as a Minister and Ordained Deacon.
Carl graduated from Eureka High School in 1942, then took winter Ag courses at Purdue University and started in the Caterpillar Apprentice Program. His father asked him to come back to the farm during World War II, and he farmed fulltime in the Washington and Eureka area until his retirement. He raised grain and livestock, was a seed salesman, and in his early years, sold and installed Getz Fire Equipment systems part time.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers including Victory Home Care Services and the caregivers and support staff at Carle Eureka Hospital for their help, support, and compassion.
Services will be at 10 am Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at the Washington Apostolic Christian Church 432 E. Cruger Road, Washington. Church Ministers will officiate. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at the Goodfield Apostolic Christian Fellowship Hall. Additional visitation will be from 9-9:45 am Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in the Washington Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery.
