Obituary WASHINGTON - Carl E. Springer, 79, of Washington, IL died at 3:00 pm Sunday, August 7, 2011 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL. Born on October 17, 1931 in Lauderdale County, AL to Jesse Leonard and Della Mae Springer, he married Bonnie Bell Chenault on May 25, 1963 in Lawrenceburg, TN. She survives. Also surviving are four children; Ronnie (Martha) Springer of Ethridge, TN, Mike (Debbie) Springer of Chicago, IL, Teresa (Jerry) Pheasant of East Peoria, IL, and Michelle (Scott) Szwejbka of Keller, TX, 8 grandchildren; Jodi Springer, Jereme Pheasant, Seth Pheasant, Lisa Szwejbka, Brenda Szwejbka, Jacob Szwejbka, Lilly Springer, and Parker Springer, 5 brothers; Buel (Eloise) Springer of Florence, AL, UD (Bert) Springer of Summertown, TN, Jerry (Navetre) Springer of Ethridge, TN and Earl Springer and Loyd Springer, both of Summertown, TN, 3 sisters; Debbie (Wayne) Long of Summertown, TN, and Rebecca Springer and Brenda Krieger, both of Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother, Douglas Glen Springer and 1 sister, Carol Ann Craig. Carl served in the US Army from 1951 to 1954, serving two years in Fairbanks and Anchorage, Alaska with the 807th and 813th EAB. He attended Illinois Central College, where he was in the first class when the college first opened it's doors in 1967. Carl worked at Caterpillar, Inc. for 37 years retiring from building L at the Tech Center in Mossville as an electrician in May of 1992. Carl was a member of the East Peoria Church of Christ where he enjoyed volunteering at the church food pantry. He also volunteered and coached for the NTRA in Washington. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, time spent on his computer, and music of all types. Services for Carl will be at 10 am on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Dave Cordry will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
