Obituary EAST PEORIAa"C. E. "Gene" Walton, 64, of East Peoria, died at 1:53 AM, on Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, after years of health problems. Born on January 13, 1943 in Carbon, Indiana to Charles Edgar and Dora Helen Thomas Walton, he married Carol Ann Carlson on October 5, 1968 in Peoria, Illinois; she survives. Surviving are 2 sons, Scott (Courtney) Walton of Joliet, and Brett (Shannon) Walton of East Peoria, 3 grandchildren, Kyle, Ryan and Emma Walton; and his mother-in-law, Wanda Paulsen of East Peoria. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother. Gene retired as an Inspector from Caterpillar's Morton Plant in 1997 after 34 years. He then worked in the Information Technology Department for East Peoria District 86, retiring from there in 2005 allowing him to do what he loved most, being a full-time Grandpa and enjoying traveling with Carol. Gene was known as a perfectionist with his lawn care and his swimming pool. His family and friends, besides enjoying the benefits of Gene's sense of humor, also enjoyed the benefits of Gene being a grill master. Gene loved the challenges and the benefits of computer technology and had also been an avid fisherman prior to his illness. The family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff in ICU at OSF. A service to celebrate the life of Gene will be held at 5 PM on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Deiters Funeral Home in East Peoria. Visitation will be held from 3-5 PM on Saturday at the funeral home.
