Obituary
C. Kenny Hyder Jr., 60, of 107 Smiley Ct., Washington, died at 9:10 am Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center Emergency Room in Peoria, IL.
Born on November 27, 1945 in Buladean, NC to Charlie "Red" and Virgie Street Hyder, he married Pam Harris on December 11, 1971 in Peoria, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are 1 son Dustin Hyder of Washington, IL, 2 daughters, Katrina (Corey) Smith of East Peoria, IL and Kristina (Scott) Budde of Washington, IL 1 sister, Mitzi Ulick of East Peoria, IL and 4 grandchildren, Logan, Lakin, Macey, and Kassidy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother, Ray.
He was a US Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War.
He retired from Caterpillar Tractor Co., Morton Plant after 30 years of service. He currently was working at Washington Community High School, helping with athletic events and maintenance. He also was working as an Innerplant Mail Driver for the Children's Home in Peoria.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Fr. John Menco Council #6707, the 12th Man Booster Club and the UAW Local #974.
He was a great high school basketball player, playing under Walter "Buck" VanHuss, who inspired him to coach his own children's sports teams including basketball, softball, and baseball for more than 25 years.
He was an avid sports fan, cheering on the University of Tennessee, the LA Dodgers, and the Dallas Cowboys. He was a true "Tennessee Volunteer", always ready to lend a helping hand at a K of C Fish Fry and various other Community Events. He will also be remembered for his heart of gold and for the love he showed for his family as a husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
A funeral mass will be at 10 am Saturday, May 27, 2006 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. The Father Joseph P. Donton will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Friday, May 26, 2006 at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington. Additional visitation will be hour prior to services from 9:30-10am on Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Washington where military rites will be accorded.
