Obituary
WASHINGTON-Brian D. Wisher, 66, of Washington, IL died at 6:35 PM Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL.
Born on December 31, 1945 in Decatur, IL to Lyman "Bud" and Margaret Bennett Wisher, he married Jeri L. Sterchi on August 16, 1969 in Olney, IL. She preceded him in death on August 16, 2008 in Washington, IL. He was also preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister, Sharon Sebok.
Surviving are 1 son, Kyle (Brooke) Wisher of Washington; 3 grandchildren, Hunter, Cash, and Elle, who lovingly referred to him as "PaPa Wish"; and 1 brother, Ron (Earline) Wisher of Decatur.
Brian graduated with a Bachelor's and Master's degree from Illinois State University, where he also played baseball for four years. He was a PE teacher and later the Dean of Students at Washington Community High School for over 25 years. He also was the WCHS head varsity baseball coach and the assistant varsity football coach. Brian later served as the Athletic Director at Springfield High School, retiring in 2002.
He was currently serving on the WCHS Board of Education. Brian had a passion for high school athletics and for the kids that participated in them. He designed the WCHS Panther logo that is currently used to symbolize "Panther Pride". Brian took great pride in caring for the athletic fields at WCHS, where he volunteered countless hours of time. He also served as the chairman of the United Way Fund in Washington and was the recipient of the Panther Pride Award and also the Washington Chamber of Commerce Washingtonian Award.
Funeral services will be at 10 AM Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. Pastor Evan Williams will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Friday, January 13, 2012 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
