Obituary

Brian Keith Patterson, 59, of Tremont, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, February 23, 2026.

He was born June 4, 1966 in Peoria, Illinois to Jimmy and Lois (Turner) Patterson.  He married Diana J. Sholty in Peoria on November 28, 1992.  She survives.

Also surviving are his mother, Lois; three children, Rachel (Justin) Bleich, Gabrielle (Mason) McCloud, Broderick Patterson; one granddaughter, Elnora Bleich; one sister, Kimberly (Brian) Gissel; one brother, Jason (Diana) Patterson; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy.

Brian received his Bachelor's Degree from Illinois State University.  He owned and operated Quickstart Electric in East Peoria and worked at Komatsu up until his passing.

Brian was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life was marked by service, faith, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community. A skilled mechanic who spent his career specializing in starters and alternators, Brian took great pride in his work and the relationships he built with his customers. Even after selling his business and later working at Komatsu, he continued helping longtime clients, always willing to lend his time and expertise.

Brian's love for engines extended far beyond his work. He began racing modified stock cars at Peoria Speedway in 1982 at just 16 years old, later transitioning into late model racing. Though he eventually stepped away from driving, his passion for the sport never faded. He continued spending Saturday nights at the track, cheering on friends, lending a helping hand in the pits, and staying connected to the racing community he loved.

Brian's greatest joy was his family. He rarely missed a game, recital, or important milestone. Whether cheering from the stands or offering quiet encouragement afterward, he was a steady and faithful presence in his children's lives. He believed deeply in supporting their passions and worked tirelessly to give them opportunities he did not have growing up.   From 2010 to 2023, Brian served as a Tremont High School softball coach, impacting not only his own children but countless young athletes in the community. His leadership extended far beyond the field. He served as a Tremont Park District Commissioner and later President from 2004 to 2011, overseeing recreation programs, youth softball, baseball, and basketball, and managing projects and grant proposals that strengthened local programs.

Brian also served as Chair of the Tremont Turkey Festival from 2013 to 2017, organizing one of Central Illinois' largest community events and helping generate over one million dollars in donations to benefit the community he loved so deeply.

A man of strong and active faith, Brian was a member of Second Baptist Church from 2002 to 2005, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher, living out his beliefs through service and generosity.

In his free time, Brian loved fishing, working on cars, traveling, and spending time with his family. He was a devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Alabama Crimson Tide football, rarely missing a game. Those who knew him well also knew his fondness for the color purple - small detail that made him uniquely himself.

Brian will be remembered for his generous spirit, servant's heart, steady presence, and the countless lives he touched through his dedication, mentorship, and quiet acts of kindness.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6pm Sunday, March 1st, 2026 at the Tremont United Methodist Church at 112 W.
