Obituary
WASHINGTON - Billie W. Suits, 76, formerly of Washington, IL, died at 8:05 am Friday, October 1, 2010 at Roanoke Apostolic Christian Home in Roanoke, IL.
Born on December 25, 1933 in Lola, KY to Lloyd Allen and Nellie Pugh Suits, he married Shirley J. Wellman on November 11, 1961 in Peoria, IL. She preceded him in death on September 22, 2009.
Surviving are 1 daughter, Teresa Harris of Creve Coeur, Il, and 1 son, Brian W. Suits of Cleveland, OH; 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Tommy Suits of Paducah, KY and Eddie Suits of Indianapolis, IN; and 1 sister, Vivian Koepple of East Peoria.
He was preceded in death by 1 son, Dennis Suits, 5 brothers, Carol, Alvie, Pete, JD and Junior, and 2 sisters, Betty and Mildred.
He was a US Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.
Billie worked on the Rock Island Railroad as a Switchman for several years.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge, was an active volunteer at Easter Seals and worked as an umpire for physically and mentally handicapped baseball leagues and the Washington Recreation Association for many years. He was also inducted into the Peoria Sports Hall of Fame.
A funeral service will be held at 1PM on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. Rev. Mark Westman will officiate. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to services, from 11AM-1PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington, where military rites will be accorded.
