Bill Hexamer, 86, of Washington, IL, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2021 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Bill was the eldest son, born on November 25, 1934 in Peoria, IL, to the late Harold and Emojean (Reynolds) Hexamer. Bill was married to Karen Hodshire Hexamer from 1963 - 1971. He subsequently married Virginia Vohland Dixon on July 10, 1987 in Washington, IL.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia; daughters, Christy (Nick) Smith, Lisa (John) Velasquez; step children, Steve (Jeannie) Dixon, Karen (Dave) Walton, Sara (Roger) Hutchison; 11 grandchildren; brothers, Tom (Eva) Hexamer, Bob (Jeanette) Hexamer; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was a 1952 graduate of Washington High School. Bill went on to serve in the US Army from 1953 - 1955. He then worked for Caterpillar for 43 years.
Bill lived a life full of adventure, spending many years living in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. However, his heart was always with his hometown of Washington, IL. He was also passionate about classic cars; owning his own extensive collection and volunteering as a tour guide at the Wheels of Time Museum in Peoria, IL. Bill was a joy to be around; a lively storyteller and always ready to share a witty joke.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 pm Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. A funeral service will be held at 11am Friday, July 2nd at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington with further visitation from 10 to 11am prior to the funeral at the church. Rev. Dick Hanson will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church or Wheels of Time Museum.
