Obituary
Washington - Bertha L. "Bertie" Riehl, 83, of Washington, died at 9:40 AM on Friday June 8, 2012 at Snyder Village in Metamora. She was born on March 6, 1929 in Peoria to Howard L. and Wilhemina Seibold Sann. She married Richard Riehl on May 6, 1950 in Peoria. He survives.
Also surviving are one son; Dennis (Evelyn) Riehl of Washington and one grandson Nathaniel L. Riehl of Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents.
After Bertie graduated from Woodruff High School, she worked as a receptionist for several area Doctors and also for the Washington Police Department as a dispatcher. She was always known as the neighborhood cookie grandma. She gave out two cookies a day to the neighborhood kids. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and was an immaculate home decorator. She was a member of the local Winnie Poo Club (Winnebago Motor Home Club) for many years and enjoyed traveling and camping with her husband. Bertie was also a member of Unit 4 Home Extension for over fifty years.
She was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Washington where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday June 13, 2012 at 10AM. Rev. Thomas L. Heren will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Tuesday at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery.
