Obituary
EAST PEORIA-Bernard J. 'Bernie' Keough, Jr., 76, of
East Peoria, died at 6:33 AM on Monday, December 31, 2007 at OSF St.
Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born on May 9, 1931 in Pittsburgh, PA to Bernard
Joseph and Mathilda J. Doyle Keough, Sr., he married Marianne R. Sisk on November 15, 1952 in Springfield, IL. She survives.
Also surviving is one son, Michael (Colleen) Keough of Morton; 4 daughters, Laurie (John) Hanson of Germantown Hills, Kathleen (Don) Baker of East Peoria, Patricia (Mike) O'Bryan of Edwards, and Marie Bob) Schlesinger of East Peoria; 1 brother, Hugh C. Keough of Lincoln; 7 grandchildren, Jamie (Brian) Anderson, John and Jeff Hanson, Courtney and Kelsey Keough, Jeremy Baker, Tim Schlesinger, 1 great granddaughter, Delaney Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John.
Bernie was a Marines Corps Korean combat veteran. He was one of "The Chosin Few" a title of respect given those who fought and survived the battle of Chosin Reservoir, an epic battle in Marine Corps history.
He worked at Logan Printing Company in Peoria, retiring in 1996 after 40 years.
Bernie was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Peoria.
He was an avid Cubs fan, loved fishing, golf and enjoyed traveling with his family to Carolina Beach each year.
Bernie loved his family and many friends, and was proud of his Irish heritage.
A memorial service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Deiters Funeral Home in East Peoria. Franciscan Friars will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Friday, January 4, 2008 at the funeral home where recitation of the rosary will be at 7 PM. Cremation rites have been accorded. Private burial will be at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Feed the Poor program at Sacred
Heart Church, American Cancer Society, or to TAPS
