Bernard "Bernie" Kissinger, 94, of Washington, passed away at 9:40 am Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the Villas of Hollybrook in East Peoria.
He was born April 16, 1927 in Peoria, IL to the late Arthur and Edna Motteler Kissinger. He married Marilyn Rose Jourdan in Peoria on August 1, 1945. She preceded him in death on December 27, 2017.
He is survived by three children, Terry of Tennessee, Karen (Stanley) Smock of Washington, Glenn (Darlene) of Chillicothe; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Bernie was a proud United States Navy WWII Veteran. He worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 40 years before retiring.
He loved baseball and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He also was a Bradley Braves fan and season ticket holder for over 75 years, and a member of the Bradley Braves Club. He enjoyed traveling with his wife in RV Caravans and spending time with his family. He was a devoted father who never knew a stranger. He will be dearly missed.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30pm Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday from 12:30 to 1:30pm at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria. In honor of Bernie the family would like everyone in attendance to wear St. Louis Cardinal gear.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Illinois Cancer Care, or Bradley Braves Club.
