Obituary WASHINGTON - Barbara Lou Schalk, 79, of Washington, IL died at 8:35 pm Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria, IL. Born on May 2, 1930 in Peoria, IL to Robert L. and Elsie LeGrand Harris, she married Wilbert E. Schalk on April 21, 1956 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Peoria. He survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters, Cindy (Jerry) Roese of Washington, IL and Debra L. Schalk of Chicago, IL, 1 son, Bob (Kim) Schalk of Bartonville, IL, 1 stepbrother, Russell (Mary Lou) Epperly of San Diego, California, 3 grandchildren, Mike Roese of Ft. Myers, FL, Rachel (Matt) Lane of Bartonville, IL and Amanda (Jim) Roy of Chicago, IL and 2 great-grandchildren, Riley Lane and Kody Lane. Barb was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother, Lillian "Babe" Epperly, and a great-granddaughter, Brystol Ulrich. She was a homemaker and was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria, where she participated in their Bible study. Barb enjoyed gardening, bird watching, fishing and cooking and was an avid Cubs fan. In the last few years, she especially enjoyed time spent with her great-grandchildren. Services for Barb will be at 10 am Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
