Obituary
METAMORA- Barbara Ann McKinney, 81, of Metamora, formerly of Winchester, died peacefully Friday, October 24, 2014 at the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
She was born March 8, 1933 in Pike County, daughter of Clyde and Pauline (Barker) Bennett.
Surviving are her daughter, Dava McLaughlin of Washington; two sons, Brian McKinney and Gordon (Lynn) McKinney both of Winchester; grandchildren, Gaylynne (Dan) Hartley of Phoenix, AZ and Jayson Brockhouse of Winchester, both whom she raised, and Kandice (Ryan) Kunkel, Kelsi (Dave) Maynard both of Winchester, Roxanne (Brandt) Barr of Germantown Hills, and T.J. (Katie) McLaughlin of Lebanon, TN; twelve great-grandchildren; her sister, Bessie (Don) Marquis of CA; nieces and nephews, Ted (Amy) Stauffer of IN, Paula (Tony) Ford of MO, Leeanna (Brad) Beutjer of GA, and Robin (Jeff) Williams of TN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Shirley Stauffer and son-in-law, Dick McLaughlin.
Barb was known to everyone as Grandma Barbs. She held many jobs including hairdresser, grocery store owner, and waitress. She most recently worked at the Hertzburg Book Bindery in Jacksonville for over 30 years as an account manager. She retired in 2003. After her retirement she kept very busy volunteering, babysitting, going to country music concerts and attending sporting events.
She was always doing for others and stayed busy volunteering over the years. She volunteered at Germantown Hills Grade School helping teachers and students with their work. She helped the Germantown Hills PTO run Bingo for 13 years. She also worked as an EMT for 20 years in Winchester. Grandma Barbs dressed up as a clown and volunteered at many events making her balloon animals.
Grandma Barbs was a 34 year breast cancer survivor and was very active with Race for the Cure. She wore her pink with pride.
Grandma Barbs was known for her fried chicken, homemade noodles and delicious turkey dinners. She will be missed for her contagious laugh, her loud voice, her many opinions and her direct commands. She was like none other. She adored her family and friends and always had a funny story to tell about one of them.
She was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Washington where her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2014 with Pastor John Hauck officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington with further visitation 30 minutes before the service on Tuesday at the church. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service with a private inurnment at Griggsville Cemetery in Griggsville.
