Obituary PEORIA - Barbara A. Hawkins, 80, of Peoria, IL and formerly of Washington, IL, died at 3:50 am Friday, January 9, 2015 at her home. Born on August 24, 1934 in Shannon County, MO, to Joseph R. and Mary Gladys Smotherman Richardson, she married Jack R. Brown on May 16, 1954 in Peoria. She later married Floyd L. Hawkins on January 24, 1981 in Peoria. He preceded her in death on October 16, 2012 in Peoria. Surviving are 5 children, Mark L. (Henriette Gratteau) Brown of Oak Park, IL, Matthew D. (Nancy) Brown of Morton, IL, Melissa S. (Brian) Nichols of Washington, IL, Mitchell A. (Sue) Brown of East Peoria, IL, and Mindy J. (Jeff) Taylor of Washington, IL; 3 step-children, Valerie (Patrick) Callahan of Knoxville, IL, Jeff Hawkins of Bandon, OR, and Randy (Janis) Hawkins of Chillicothe, IL; 2 sisters, Mary Jo Blust of Sugarland, TX and Janet (Charles) Sing of MI; 1 brother, Keith Richardson of Downers Grove, IL; 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Barb, known to many as Bobbi, was a homemaker for many years and later worked in sales at Sears. Family always came first for Barb, who devoted her life to her children and grandchildren. Yet what made her special was her ability to connect with everyone she met - always flashing her warm smile and showing genuine interest and concern in others. A memorial service for Barb will be at 11 am Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Washington. Pastor John Hauck will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Monday, January 12, 2015 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Burial at Springdale Cemetery in Peoria will be private.
