Obituary

Obituary Barbara Jean Carey, 77, of Washington, passed away at 2:48pm Sunday, February 7, 2016 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. Barb was born June 3, 1938 in Peoria to the late Sylvan and Susan Roth Bright. She married her high school sweetheart, Gordon L. Carey on July 16, 1955 in Peoria. He preceded her in death February 6, 2016. Surviving are their sons, Steaven (Jani) Carey of East Peoria, Greg (Amy) Carey of East Peoria, and Tim (Colleen) Carey of Washington; grandchildren, Eric Fryman, Rachel Fryman, Matthew Carey, and Amy Carey; great-grandchildren, Christian Doling, Aiden Fryman, and Alec Pallardy; and a sister, Marilyn McIntosh. Barb attended Manual High School, and moved with her husband to Biloxi, MS during his time in the service. She took great pride in caring for and loving her family. Barb was extremely artistic and enjoyed crocheting, ceramics, crafts, and oil painting. She also enjoyed researching genealogy, and loved animals, especially her cats. She was an avid gardener, even maintaining a water garden and Koi pond. She was instrumental in helping to start her family's business, Butch's Premium Pizza, and used her talents to create the now-famous pig logo, that we dig. She was a member of the Washington Oil Painting Club, Prairieland Koi & Pond Society, and Faith Lutheran Church in Washington. The family would like to thank the staff of OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, and the personal caregivers, Deb Anderson, Amy Taylor, and Sarah Hamilton for the loving care they all provided Butch and Barb. Visitation for Barb and her husband, Butch will be from 10:00am-1:00pm Friday, February 12, 2016 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. Their funeral service will begin promptly at 1:00pm, following the visitation. Interment will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria. Pastor John Rothfusz will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to TAPS or OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
