Obituary Amanda N. (Burtsfield) Kent, 26, of Charleston, formerly of Creve Coeur, passed away Friday, February 27, 2015 in a tragic automobile accident near Sullivan, IL. Amanda was born on August 22, 1988 to Ron and Mary Jane Otten Burtsfield in Peoria, IL. She married John Michael Kent on June 25, 2011 in Peoria Heights. Loving memories will be cherished by her husband, John, of Charleston; parents, Ron and Mary Jane Burtsfield of Creve Coeur; siblings, Amy (Brian) Desatnick of East Peoria, and Andrew and Alex Burtsfield of Creve Coeur; grandmothers, Dolores Otten of Washington, and Mila Burtsfield of Eureka; mother and father-in-law, Susan and John Kent of Ocean View, DE and many family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Gerald T. Otten and Ronald W. Burtsfield. Amanda was a 2006 graduate of Peoria Notre Dame High School, and a 2011 graduate of Eastern Illinois University. She worked in education as a teacher at middle schools in Villa Grove, Peoria, and Decatur. Amanda had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. She loved working with children and touched many students' lives. When she was not in the classroom, she loved sitting on a beach reading her favorite novels. A visitation will be from 5-7:00pm, Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am, Thursday, March 5, 2015 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Peoria Heights, with additional visitation one hour prior to Mass at the church. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to E.I.U. Foundation, reference Amanda Kent Memorial Fund on the memo line,or to Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Scholarship Fund.
