Obituary
Allen D. "Al" Hughes, 61, of Peoria, formerly of Phoenix, AZ, passed away at 7:00pm Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at his daughter's home in Marquette Heights.
Al was born December 18, 1954 in Gibson City to the late William A. and Carole F. Blissard Hughes.
Surviving is his daughter, Amy Winkler (James Glass); grandsons, Eric and Justin Winkler; siblings, Virginia Storm of New Port Richey, FL and Dave Hughes of Phoenix, AZ; and his significant other, Cynthia Janke; a lifelong friend, Gene Saadi; and his beloved dog, Lady .
Al was self-motivated and self-educated in his chosen field. He graduated from Heyworth High School in 1972. Al lived in Phoenix, AZ for many years until he came back to Illinois to be near family. He worked for Bell and Howell since 2000 as a technical architecture manager, and was extremely passionate about computers. He loved building them and tinkering with them. He also enjoyed all kinds of music, especially Jimi Hendrix. In all, Al enjoyed living life, whether it was traveling, enjoying a new restaurant or craft beer, organizing his KitchenAid gadgets. Cars and motorcycles were another source of enjoyment, but most important to him was his family, especially his grandkids, and his dogs.
A memorial visitation will be held from 3-5:00pm Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in East Peoria. Cremation rites have been accorded. After the visitation, guests are welcome to join the family to Tequila's in East Peoria for dinner and drinks.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Illinois CancerCare in Peoria.
