Obituary

Alice J. Meurn, 78, originally of Washington, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Gracy Woods II in Austin, Texas.

Alice was born October 23, 1947 in Peoria, Illinois to Carl and Alice Meurn (later Frazee). Surviving are her son, Derek (Leslie) Schroen of Austin, Texas; and her grandchildren, Alex McMahan of Germantown Hills, Illinois; Paige (Blake) Alexander of Peoria, Illinois; Claire McMahan of Chillicothe, Illinois; Jordyn McMahan of Chillicothe, Illinois; and Owen McMahan of Chillicothe, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepparents, Jessie Meurn and Jesse Frazee; and her brother, Carl Meurn.

Alice graduated from Washington Community High School in 1965. She worked at CILCO until her son was born in 1974. She re-entered the workforce in the early 1980's at Mary-Rachel Antiques, where she was fortunate to make several lifelong friends. By the late 1980's, Alice had begun working as a pharmacy tech at Don's Pharmacy. Although she worked for Versa Press for a number of years after Don's Pharmacy closed, she eventually returned to her role as a pharmacy tech at Kroger until she retired.

In August 2023, Alice moved to Pflugerville, Texas (a suburb of Austin) to be closer to her son. She enjoyed her time there, and she especially loved the weather and loved visiting local restaurants. Alice doted on her pug, Louie, who spent the vast majority of his day laying on her lap (but he also got to go on many walks with her every day). She loved watching Purdue men's basketball games, and she enjoyed her word search books and games of UNO and Yahtzee (and she won more games than she lost, per Derek). If you were lucky enough to know Alice, you had a wonderful person in your circle.

Alice's legacy will be her positive spirit and her constant desire to make sure that anyone visiting her had everything they needed. She never put herself first. Her smile was warm and inviting, and she flashed that smile every chance she got. Alice made everyone around her feel happier, and she continued with that positive attitude until the very end. She was a strong woman, and she was a role model to her daughter-in-law Leslie, as well as her son Derek's strongest supporter his entire life. Alice doted on her grandchildren, and she spent time every day looking at pictures of them on her iPad.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, Illinois. Private interment will be at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria, Illinois at a later date.
