Obituary
WASHINGTON-Alice Lavene McGrann, 88, of Washington, IL, passed away peacefully at her home at 7:15 PM on February 28, 2012.
Alice was born on May 30, 1923 in Osceola, MO to Rolla and Beulah Akers Millam, the first of eight children. She married William Lyle McGrann, her husband of 66 years, on February 13, 1946 in Kansas City, KS.
Surviving are her husband, William, her daughter and son-in-law, Sana and Rick Becker of Washington, IL, 2 granddaughters, Annie (Zak) Wilson of Jefferson City, MO and Emily (Pete) Hampton of Peoria, IL, 4 great-grandchildren whom she adored, Jakob and Alexander Wilson and Benjamin and Lillian Hampton, 3 sisters to whom she will always be "Sis", Martha Johnson, Mary (Pete) Stober, and Delores (Edwin) Pogue.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Raymond and George, and sisters, Neva and Opal.
Alice worked as a librarian for many years, first at John Moser Public Library in Abingdon, IL and later at the Western Illinois Library System in Monmouth, IL. Books, and especially reading to her grandchildren, were a joy in her life. Alice also loved birdwatching, working outside when she was able, the color pink, and spending time with her family. Alice was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Monday, March 5, 2012 at Washington Presbyterian Church in Washington. Pastor Rebecca Weltmann will officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
