Obituary Washington - A. Gale Youngman, 78, of Washington passed away at 7:09 PM on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Gale was born on March 20, 1934 in East Peoria, IL to the late Esta and Annabelle Kaler Youngman. Gale married Janet Kerrigan on September 5, 1959 in Peoria. She survives. Also surviving are three sons and one daughter, Michael Youngman, Brian Youngman, Mark (Joelle) Youngman, and Jane (Casey) Young all of Washington; six grandchildren: Elizabeth, Boone, Shannon, Leah, Mallory and Maggie; a brother Lee (Grace) Youngman of Mossville; several nieces and nephews. Gale was preceded in death by a sister Marie Hanson. Before retirement, Gale's career was in the Banking and Financial Industry. He was a member of Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Washington where he volunteered his time to assist with church collections. He was a former volunteer coach and treasurer for the Washington Recreation Association and contributed many hours to the WHIP and Share Food Drives. Gale was an avid sports fan and was especially loyal to the New York Yankees Baseball, Chicago Bears Football, and U of I Basketball teams. Gale also enjoyed being a part of his Thursday morning Romeo (retired old men eating out) Club. Of all of the joys in his life, the most important was spending time with his family; especially his wife and grandchildren. One of Gale's greatest accomplishments was his service in the United States Marine Corps from 1952-1956. He was proud to be a Marine and quite frequently attended local veteran events and activities. A Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Washington at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 21, 2012. Fr. John Steffen will officiate. Following the mass, burial services will take place at Glendale Cemetery in Washington with Military Rites rendered by the Tazewell Military Rites Team. Visitation will take place on Thursday from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and on Friday at the church from 9:30 AM until the time of Mass.
