Valarie Ann Virgil

August 29, 1931 ~ November 20, 2016 (age 85)
Valarie Ann Virgil, 85, of Eureka, formerly of Norwood, passed away at 5:55am Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Select Post Acute Care in Eureka.
Valarie was born August 29, 1931 in Peoria to Herbert and Gladys Coon Schifeling. She married the love of her life, Eugene Virgil on January 10, 1953 in Peoria. He preceded her in death on August 21, 2009.
Surviving are six children, Jeanette (Ron) Anderson of Germantown Hills, Nancy Callihan of Pekin, Joseph Virgil of Peoria, Eugene (Julie) Virgil, Edward (Tina) Virgil, and Thomas Virgil, all of Morton; thirteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard (Sue) Schifeling and John (Joan) Schifeling; two sisters, Eunice Birdoes and Beverly (Loren) Friday; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Jim Callihan; brother, Herbert Schifeling; and two sisters, Virginia Zierke and Joanne Freaner.
Valarie was a loving mother and homemaker whose joy in life was her family; they were the center of her life. She was a good neighbor and a helpful friend to many people throughout her life. Valarie worked at Belwood Nursing Home and Norwood Grade School and was a member of the NALC auxiliary. She enjoyed walking, cooking, sewing, and solving cryptoquote puzzles. She always had a smile on her face, loved laughing and brought laughter to those around her. She enjoyed visiting with people more than anything and was the life of the party. Valarie attended the House of Prayer in Peoria, where she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her savior. Her memory is cherished by her children and grandchildren, who are thankful for the many wonderful memories she gave them.
Visitation will be from 10-11:00am Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. Her funeral service will begin at 11:00am, Saturday November 26, 2016 at the funeral home, immediately following the visitation. Interment will be at Cottonwood Cemetery in Hanna City. Pastor Dan Leman will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
