Shirley McKimson

WASHINGTON - Shirley McKimson, 88, of Washington, passed away at 2:10am Friday, February 10, 2017 at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria.

Shirley was born June 8, 1928 in Owasso, MI to Harry and Hazel Wilson Haynes. She married Bernard "Bernie" McKimson on May 15, 1948 in Sheldon, IL ; he preceded her in death on December 24, 1992.

Surviving are her children, Karen (Doug) Smith, Rod (Terri) McKimson, and Steve (Debbie) McKimson; grandchildren, Danielle and Blake Gullett, Dalton and Dallas Smith; Molly (Michael) Vogel, Carrie (Eric) Higgs; Chad and Casey McKimson; and Jami (Anna) McKimson; great-grandchildren, Kyson, Clare, Will, Xavier, Cale, Ruxin, Palmer, Lilly, Jena, Ben, and Emily; siblings, Tommy Haynes and Eleanor Marshall; and her beloved bird, Sweetie.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, three brothers, and son, Les McKimson.

Shirley worked for several years in the cafeteria at John L. Hensey school and also at Don's Restaurant. She was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Washington and was a Tazewell County election judge. Shirley enjoyed completing crosswords and word searches and finding treasures at garage sales. She was a wonderful wife and mom to her family.

A funeral service for Shirley will be held at 6:00pm Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. Pastor Bob DeBolt will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-6:00pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Cremation rites will follow the service, and inurnment will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Snyder Village Resident in Need fund.
