James A. Spoon

April 25, 1924 ~ May 22, 2017 (age 93)
James A. Spoon, 93, of Metamora, formerly of Washington, passed away at 9:35 am Monday, May 22, 2017 at Snyder Village in Metamora.
He was born April 25, 1924 in Rosser, TN to Herman and Lillie Hendricks Spoon. He married Marjorie Jordan in Camden, TN on Aug. 3, 1948. She preceded him in death on Aug. 13, 2013. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Warren and Bobby; and two sisters, Marjorie and Estelle.
Surviving are two daughters, Sandra (Michael) Kneer of Washington, Kathy (Doug) Springer of Germantown Hills; six grandchildren, Michele, Scott, Ryan, Mark, Colby, Megan; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, LouNell Smith of Nashville, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
James was a WWII Army Veteran, and was very proud of that. He worked as a core setter in the foundry at Caterpillar Inc., retiring in May of 1986 after 39 years of service.
He was a charter member and Deacon of Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church in Washington.
Memorial contributions may be made to his church.
A funeral service will be held at 11am Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington with Elder Stephen Thompson and Elder Jerry Miller officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
