January 27, 1933 ~ March 2, 2017 (age 84)
Jack Frances Gould, 84, of Gridley, formerly of East Peoria, passed away at 10:10 pm Thursday, March 2, 2017 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington, IL and is now safe in the arms of Jesus.
He was born, the second of three children, on January 27, 1933 in Decatur, IL to Glen and Helen (Condon) Gould.
Jack graduated from East Peoria High School in 1951. During his high school years he was a star basketball player and met his future wife, Nancy Gustafson. Jack and Nancy were married in 1953, immediately before he was deployed with the United States Army to Korea. They recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.
While in Korea, Jack served as a Military Policeman in the Special Training Battalion of the 101st Airborne, assisted in the establishment of an orphanage, and received the following medals; Korean Service Ribbon, United Nations Service Medal, and Merit Unit Citation. Following his military service he worked at the Kroger Warehouse in East Peoria, retiring in 1996.
Jack and Nancy have three children, Cindy (Jerry) Hann, Jim (Kitty) Gould, and Becky (Mark) Funk. Other survivors include seven grandchildren, Rick Winn, Tim (Liz) Hann, Amanda Winn, David Hann, Courtney (Garrett) Yackley, Philip (Marisa) Hann, and Codey Funk; four great-grandchildren, Stewart Winn, Vickkie Hann, Lyla Yackley, and Norah Yackley; his younger brother, Steve (April) Gould; two sister-in-law's, Pat Gould and Lynda Gustafson; as well as five nephews, Glen (Carol) Gould, Mark (Kelly) Gould, Paul (Jovy) Gould, Jeff Gould, and Gregory Gould; and four nieces, Lisa (Steve) Snyder, Jamie Gustafson, Wendy Gould-Crotz, and Jill (Mark) Mattern.
He was preceded in death by his parents; eldest brother, Glen W. "Bill" Gould; mother and father-in-law, Ruth and Clarence Gustafson; and brother-in-law, Jim Gustafson.
Fishing was Jack's passion during life. He successfully competed in many bass tournaments with his grandson, Rick. His children fondly remember fishing trip vacations to Lake Bloomington as well as various lakes in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan as they grew up. Canoeing in the boundary waters of Canada with his son Jim and fishing in Lake Champlain, Vermont with grandsons Tim, David, and Philip were also highlights of his life. Jack was very proud of granddaughter Amanda's dedication to working with at-risk children.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to Gateway Woods Family Services at P.O. Box 125 in Leo, Indiana 46725.
Jack's funeral service will be at 12 Noon on Monday, March 6, 2017 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria. Visitation will be 2 hours prior from 10am until service time. Burial with Military Honors will be at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
