EUREKA - Goldie Harrison-Hoffmire, 89, of Eureka, IL died at 9:40 pm Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka. She was born on December 11, 1927 in Clifton, KS, to Tally Walker and Gladys VanBlaricom Daniel. She enlisted in the Army Cadet Nursing Program just prior to the war ending, and then obtained her RN degree from St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, MO. She later attended Manhattan Bible College in Kansas where she was in the Missionary Studies program. She married Darrell B. Harrison On August 31, 1949 in Clifton, KS. He preceded her in death on March 26, 1995. She later married John C. Hoffmire Sr. on January 1, 2001 in Sunnyland. He survives in Morton. Also surviving are 5 children; Ray D. (Susan) Harrison of Crossville, TN, Kevin P. (Sara Moore) Harrison of Lake Barrington, IL, Stephen D. (Marilyn) Harrison of Fulton, IL, Debra S. (Jim) Talaska of Washington, IL, and Luella R. (Don) Mahannah of Normal, IL, 1 stepson; Mark Hoffmire of Morton, IL 2 nieces, Andrea Early and Michelle Duffy, 12 grandchildren; Daniel (Tiffany) Harrison, Dirk (Becky) Harrison, Bekah (Joey) Eaker, Jedidiah Harrison, Elijah Harrison, Lynn (Seth) Gregory, Mark (Whitney) Harrison, Anne Harrison, Chelsea Picton, Emma (Dan) Rogers, Jessica Mahannah, and Kristen Mahannah, 5 step grandchildren; Brad Hoffmire, Sam Hoffmire, Erin Hoffmire, Joshua Meyer, and Jenna Hoffmire, and 10 great-grandchildren; Gabriella, Luke, Timothy, Rhys, Brooks, Hayden, Eli, Ava, Ariya, and Eden. Goldie was preceded in death by 2 step-sons, Jim Hoffmire and John C. Hoffmire Jr. and her sister, Iris Conley. She worked as an RN at several central Illinois hospitals, Clayberg Nursing Home, and a Pain Management Clinic in Denver, CO. She retired from Aetna where she did case management for health claims. Goldie also partnered with Darrell in his pastorates in Adair, MO, Ipava, Sunnyland, Canton, Peoria, IL and Denver, CO. She spent her life committed to building and supporting the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and was a current member of Sunnyland Christian Church. Goldie was a leader in advancing the role of women and minorities in the church and the society at large. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society, and expressed her love of family by her countless celebrations during holidays and birthdays. A funeral will be at 12 noon on Monday, December 26, 2016 at Sunnyland Christian Church. Pastor Evan Williams and Pastor Scott Woolridge will officiate. Visitation will be from 10am to 12 noon on Monday at the church. A graveside service will be held at 3 pm on Monday, December 26, 2016 at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton, IL. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Canton, Sunnyland Christian Church, or to St. Luke's College of Health Sciences.
