On Sunday, September 23, 2018, Marcia Elaine Willoughby, 74, of Washington, IL left this earth for her heavenly reward at the OSF Richard Owens Hospice Home in Peoria IL. Marcia was loved and will be missed by family and friends whose lives she touched and forever changed. She listened without judgment. She advised without preaching. She loved without condition. She was dedicated without expectation. And fun? She wasn’t called Grandma Whoopie for nothing! Marcia’s legacy is simple and profound - God and family first, selflessness and sacrifice for the ones she loved, and an unfailing zest for life.
Born July 23, 1944 in Washburn, IL to Kibb Elliott and Lydia Marie Adeline Harms Oliver, Marcia grew up in Washburn, IL and was the youngest of five children. Her siblings include Elmont “Sonny” Oliver, Barbra Thierer, Shirley McCormick and Elizabeth “Kay” Rohman. Her sister Shirley survives.
Marcia married Gary Willoughby, the love of her life and husband of 54 years, on June 21, 1962. He survives. Together, they had five children; Elmont “Monte” Willoughby of Washington, IL, Kelly Pohl of Washington, IL, Michael Todd Willoughby of Normal, IL, David Willoughby of Tucson, AZ and Melissa Dempsey of O’Fallon, MO, all who survive. Marcia is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, truly the lights of her life. Marcia loved her family beyond words. Nothing gave her more joy than being surrounded by her family and friends, whether at home in Washington, at a party with friends, at her beloved Lake of the Ozarks getaway or at the many events and activities her kids and grandkids were involved in.
Marcia’s family will be receiving those who wish to pay their respects and share their memories on Saturday, September 29 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family asks those who would like to offer a remembrance of Marcia to do so with a gift in her name to the St Jude’s Children Hospital.
