Jim Reeves, 69, of East Peoria, passed away at his residence Friday, Jan. 18, 2019.
He was born Nov. 10, 1949 in Peoria to Robert D. and Kathryn M. Eigsti Reeves.
Surviving are his daughter, Gretchen Hinkle; four siblings, Roger (Debbie) Reeves, David (Anne) Reeves, Linda (Jim) Calder; Scott (Madelyn) Reeves; and nine nieces and nephews, Roger, Brian, Jennifer, Nikki, Katie, Melissa, Christopher, Lindsay, and MaryBeth. He was preceded in death by his parents; and niece, Jennifer.
Jim was a music lover and avid memorabilia collector. With an iconic and memorable voice, he spent many years as on-air talent and producer for radio stations throughout Illinois including WWCT, WCBU, WTAZ, WKAI, WGLO, and WTAO. Jim founded University Records and co-founded Peoria Record Company. He also worked at Bradley University and OSF Medical Center.
He was a proud supporter of US Veterans. Additionally, he contributed to Open Arms Food Pantry in Metamora, Woodford County Meals on Wheels and Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis-Motherhouse in East Peoria. Memorial donations may be made to the organizations above or by simply planting a flower in his memory.
Jim’s wishes for cremation have been honored. A Celebration of Life will be held from 2 to 3 pm Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Immediately following all are invited to celebrate Jim’s life and legacy at the Rotary Shelter at the Veterans Memorial at Washington Park for a time of sharing.
