Jerry Lee Johnson, 83, of East Peoria, passed away at 9:44pm Saturday, September 8, 2018 at his home.
Jerry was born September 20, 1934 in Peoria to the late Alger and Dorothy Branson Johnson. He married Renita Cozean on June 2, 1961; she preceded him in death in 2012.
Surviving are three children, Melanie (Vern) Harris of East Peoria, Joel (Leslie) Johnson of St. Louis, and Sean Johnson of East Peoria; grandchildren, Marlee (Brett) Bunge, Mariah (Nick) Hansen, Kayla Johnson, and Brett and Blake Johnson; and a sister, Judy Johnson of Washington.
Jerry began singing and dancing at an early age, which allowed him to meet his future wife Renita at the St. Louis Municipal Opera. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and attended Bradley University. He went on to work on Broadway and motion pictures before moving back to Peoria. Jerry was very involved in numerous productions by the Conklin Dinner Theater, Peoria Players Theater, Corn Stock Theatre, and the Caterpillar Chorus, acting and directing. He retired from Caterpillar Tractor Co. after many years of service and was a dedicated Cubs fan.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at 4:00pm Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the America Heart Association.
