Jeffery L. Dennis

January 17, 1944 ~ April 22, 2018 (age 74)

Jeffery Lee Dennis, 74, of Washington, IL, died at 7:55 am Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Born on January 17, 1944 in Belleville, IL to Ralph and Ruth Lovell Dennis, he married Joyce Ann Norton on July 31, 1966 in Kewanee, IL.  She survives. 

Also surviving are 2 children; Renee (Milo, Jr.) Mordhorst of Washington, IL, and Neil Dennis of Pekin, IL, 4 grandchildren; Milo J. Mordhorst, Seth Mordhorst, Neil Dennis Jr. and Lakoda Dennis, 1 great-granddaughter, Emilee Sophia Dennis, 8 siblings; Terry N. (Sara) Dennis of Jacksonville, IL, Frederick (Fran) Dennis of Las Vegas, NV, Sharon House of TX, Karen Price of CA, Stephen Dennis of Guam, Phillip Dennis of TX, Kim Murphy of Jacksonville, IL, and Kevin (Roberta) Dennis of Beardstown, IL, and his beloved dog, Sloopy.

Jeff was preceded in death by 6 siblings; Carol Sturdivant, Richard Dennis, Marilyn Neff, Peggy Lindsey, Tim Dennis, and Kerry Dennis.

He was a United State Marine Corp Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War.

Jeff worked as a Quality Control Inspector at Caterpillar Tractor Co., retiring in 2002 after nearly 40 years of service.  He later worked with his son at Land Inventions Landscape, where he enjoyed visiting with the various people he encountered during his day.

A former member of the Spring Bay American Legion Post #1115, Jeff also served as its Vice Commander and Chief Commander.   He enjoyed bowling at Crossroads Lanes in Peoria, where he won the city wide tournament.

Known as the life of the party, Jeff enjoyed music and playing on his keyboard, and was affectionately known as “Honey Badger” to many.

 A visitation will be from 2-4 pm Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory, where a service will follow at 4 pm.  Pastor Jim Gorby will officiate. 

Memorials may be made to TAPS or to the American Legion DAV Post #2, Peoria.
