Anthony “Tony” Legaz, 93, of Davenport, IA, formerly of East Peoria, passed away at 4:49pm Sunday, July 15, 2018 at his home.
He was born January 13, 1925 in Brooklyn, NY to Matthew and Mary Perini Legaz. He married Doris B. Hutchcraft on May 6, 1945 in Peoria; she preceded him in death in 2011.
Surviving are his children, James Legaz of East Peoria and Anita (Jed) Ferdinand of Davenport, IA; grandchildren, Christina Legaz; James, Matthew and Zachary Ferdinand; great-grandchildren, Grayson and Brynley; and his twin sister, Sylvia Bournincountri.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister.
Tony was a dedicated employee of the US Postal Service from 1947-1984. He worked his way up, retiring as the director of employee/labor relation. Tony served his country with the US Army during World War II. He was active in the community as a volunteer/board member of the Boys and Girls Club in Peoria and enjoyed his longtime memberships with the Peoria Bowling Association and the Peoria Philatelic Society. Tony loved to garden, was an avid reader and a Sinatra fan. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.
A funeral service will be at 1:00pm Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project.
