Anne J. Markum, 71, of Washington, passed away at 11:42am Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at UnityPoint Health- Methodist in Peoria.
Anne was born March 3, 1947, in London, England to the late Frederick and Doreen King Baker. She married Harold Markum in 1966; he survives.
Also surviving are her children, Jason (Kandy) Markum of East Peoria and Wendy (Jayne) Markum-Scanlan of Brighton, IL; grandchildren, Hailey and Collin; great-grandchildren, Paxton and Aspen; and her dog, Ben.
Anne immigrated to the United States with her parents in 1949 and settled in Peoria, IL. She graduated from Peoria (Central) High School in 1965 and worked as a medical records clerk at Methodist Hospital for several years. Anne was a passionate animal rights supporter and instilled in her children the respect and care for all creatures on the planet. She loved classic cars and would attend car shows with her family. While Anne was gifted in trivia, and rarely lost a game of scrabble or trivial pursuit, she was not gifted in cooking, much to the disappointment of her family left eating Hamburger Helper. Anne would always lend an ear, and her home was a safe-haven for those in need. Her open door and open heart made a great impact on those who loved her and those she loved in return.
Cremation rites have been accorded by Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers, may be made to TAPS No-Kill Shelter, https://www.tapsshelter.org/donations
