Obituary:
BLOOMINGTON-Barbara Ann Learned, 84, of Bloomington, IL passed away at 11:28 AM Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at her home. Born on April 2, 1927 in Jonesboro, AR to James S. and Ida I. McBride McCann, she married Dana Whitney Learned on October 15, 1962 in Bloomington. He preceded her in death on July 17, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Surviving are 1 daughter from her previous marriage to Max F. Hersey, Holly (Alan) Lyons of Bloomington ; 2 children from her marriage to Dana Whitney Learned, Candy (Larry) Oneal of Heyworth and Spencer (Julie) Learned of Bloomington; 1 step-daughter, Lucinda M. (Dr. Kenneth Paul) Soulsby of Deming, NM; 2 sisters, Patsy (James) Cline of Orlando, FL and Nancy Stipp of Stark City, MO; 11 grandchildren, John (Nicole), Courtney, Whitney, Derri, Haley, Allyson, Hanna, Adria, Cody, Joshua (Christine), and Judson; 4 great-grandchildren, Quinn, Demian, Charles Henry, and Abigail Renee; and 1 cousin, Jim McCann of South Bend, IN Barbara lived in the Oak Park and Forrest Park area where her father was employed by Williams Oil-O-Matic. Her grandparents lived in Bloomington, IL and owned a small neighborhood grocery store adjacent to Washington Grade School. Barbara moved to Bloomington when her father accepted another position. She graduated from Bloomington High School and attended University of Miami. Barbara was employed as a medical assistant in Bloomington and also in Hollywood and Coral Gable area of Florida. She was also employed at State Farm regional office. Barbara was actively involved in raising her grandchildren. She was an avid reader and crossword puzzle fanatic. In her earlier years, she enjoyed traveling to Florida, the Caribbean, and Panama. In the summer, Barbara enjoyed time by the pool with her children and grandchildren and also enjoyed volunteering for Dist. 87, where her grandchildren attended. Barbara's family would like to thank the OSF Hospice Team for all of their compassion and kindness, especially Jason and Becky. Cremation rites have been accorded and there will be a time of gathering and remembrance from 4-8 PM Friday, December 30, 2011 at Barbara’s residence. A private family service will be held at a later date. Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Bloomington Public Library or to the Humane Society of Central Illinois in Normal where her dog, Honey and her Quaker Parrot, Kiwi are from.
