He was born on September 16, 1957 in Pekin, IL to David L. and Karen Waughop Smith. He was married to Elena Hayes Smith for more than 20 years. She survives in Greenwood, IN. Surviving are his father, David Smith, of Peoria, IL, 1 brother, Kenneth (Linda) Smith of Williamsville, IL, 1 sister, Niki Johnson of Peoria, IL, 3 nephews, Rodney Lee Dawson, Alec Lee Dawson and Kyle C.A. Johnson, 2 nieces, Rachel Smith and Talea Smith, 1 step-daughter, Heather Wain and 2 granddaughters, Hayley Carson and Chelsea Carson. He was preceded in death by his mother and his nephew, Nathan Smith. Robert worked at Lumberyard Liquidators in Morton for the past year. He was a motorcycle enthusiast. Visitation for Robert will be from 6- 7:45 pm Friday, November 18, 2011 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria, where Pastor Joseph Weyer will have a prayer at 7:45 pm. Cremation rites will be accorded after the visitation.
